The weather has finally become steady and reliable, and the hot sunny summer I’ve been dreaming of is (finally) here. Being that it’s by far my favorite season of the year, I’m trying to spend as much time outside and as little time inside as possible. Even on the hottest of heat advisory days, I’m pro-outdoor seating for every possible meal. Since I want to take advantage of every warm sunny minute, I like my clothing to be simple, lightweight, and easy to throw on. Any of these items would fit the bill quite nicely.

I decided to take a little impromptu mid-week break to go play in Chicago for a few days. I dined, sipped, and shopped my way through the city, and took advantage of one beautiful afternoon for a scenic run along the lake. Lush, bright-colored tulips lined Michigan Avenue, where I headed Thursday night to stop by Banana Republic to say hello to the darling Anna of See Jane, as she was playing hostess at the Banana Republic after 5 event. There I also met Audrey of A Lovely Escape, and somehow I escaped the store without buying a beautiful pink sequin dress that was calling my name. Between this fun event, happy hour with friends over margaritas, a late night champagne bar, and my first visit to Millennium Park, I’d say the entire little trip was a lovely little escape.

the guest dress

While my favorite places to shop tend to come and go and change over time, one consistent place I’ve loved for years is Bluefly. When I say years I mean it…I bought my high school senior prom dress from Bluefly! (I adored that dress-and still do). While unfortunately my prom days are over, (who wouldn’t give for another prom!) I am back to dress hunting once again as I have another slew of weddings to attend this year. When dress shopping for a any particular event, I have a tendency to choose a dress with only that one event in mind-not the smartest way to shop, I know. I’m still trying hard though to stick to my 2011 New Years resolutions, so with that comes buying things that I can picture wearing for multiple occasions. How do you mix up what you already own?

Bluefly has been my go-to shop lately, as they have literally everything you could want or need-for any occasion. From heels and evening dresses, to fun jewelry and designer handbags (they even carry my favorite-Marc Jacobs)…they never fail to have exactly what I didn’t know I needed.

Where are your go-to dress shops?
