leather lady

I’m {jumping up and down!} excited to debut a colorful + fun new look here on ‘a Sequin Dress’ as I head into day 2 of a full week in New York City. My days are packed with blogger events {the Independent Fashion Bloggers and Lucky Fashion and Beauty Bloggers – FABB}, designer shows {BCBG, Rebecca Minkoff, Herve Leger, Erin Fetherston}, and Fashion’s Night Out {Thursday!} I kicked it off with a full-on fall look yesterday with leather on leather and my new maroon oxfords.

{leather shift: gap {old, similar here}, vest: vintage (similar), sunnies: dvf, necklace: unknown, oxfords: xica (found at hallelu)}

ny extras

I’ve been back from NY for over a week now but I packed so much in it’s taken awhile to get it all out. Besides a few more runway recaps, here are a final few favorite shots from my lovely trip to New York.

{stripes at richard chai, flatiron building, with anna of see jane, jessie of style and pepper braving the elements for the perfect shot, sweet little message, wine + bauble bar bling, cowboy-ish goth-esque nicholas k finale, rebecca taylor program, giving the pained feet a break}

While I always try to pack strategically for trips to NYC, I inevitably end up diverting from what I planned on. Last Thursday I had a busy/exciting day of shows – Nicholas K, BCBG, Richard Chai, Honor, and Tadashi Shoji – so I decided to throw my pink tights on to stay warm + bright. I’m starting to think my pink tights should be the new black; a consistent winter staple.

{dress: diane von furstenberg, faux fur: nordstroms (old) , tights: hue, shoes: dior, glasses: derek cardigan, gloves: H&M, earrings and bracelet: c/o bauble bar}

It’s the day of love, and the perfect day to share some of my loveliest photos I have from my last week in New York. I fell in love with the city when my parents first took me when I was 14, and each time I visit it pulls at my heart a little more.

{most exciting start + end to a show ever - at rebecca minkoff}

{constant photos}

week ahead

It’s rare that I wish for a weekend to fly by, but this past weekend I did exactly that. I leave for New York on Tuesday, and I couldn’t be more giddy about the week ahead. I spent my weekend having a sushi and wine filled slumber party, complete with Dawson’s Creek on DVD, (Pacey is still my favorite), and starting the ridiculously difficult task of packing for 5 nights in NYC. (during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week…during the winter…it’s nearly impossible to pack with any sort of strategy).

The official first day of Fashion Week kicked off yesterday with the BCBG Max Azria show. You know when your heart starts pounding with the music beat-before Arizona Muse and the other models even take the stage-you’re in for something good. The collection was full of slightly tribal, almost art-deco inspired prints and floaty dresses that seemed completely weightless. All of the girls had slicked-back hair that hinted at a sporty but feminine look. While the NYC early morning weather was depressingly rainy and created a personal hair and shoe nightmare, when I left the Lincoln Center after the show was over, it was as if the sunny and bright spring/summer 2012 BCBG Max Azria collection had single handedly brought out the sunshine.

One week from today I take off for NYC. (I’m jumping up and down in excitement just typing this). Since it’s impossible to start the packing process too early, I started pulling out pieces I’d like to take and trying them out with different ensembles. The extended forecast looks like it will be sunny and in the 70’s, so I’m trying to pack accordingly to the weather and the season, with a little inspiration from my favorite September issues. Until then…I have some packing editing, dry cleaning, and (just a bit of) shopping to do.
